Duration: 4 days
Tour Seller: Open Africa Safaris

Overview

On our adventure camping safaris you will be immersed in the East African wilderness. You will travel on rough adventurous roads, pass tiny rural settlements and see fascinating landscapes and abundant wildlife.

All your senses will be involved; from smelling early morning coffee, experiencing the thrill of a kill to the chill of a morning game drive. Falling asleep to the hooting of an owl or waking up with the roaring of a lion is what you will experience. The safari experience is all the more intense as you are ‘right in the middle’ of it all. The nearness to the nature, especially at night with its nocturnal sounds, compensates for the luxury of a lodge.

Our camping safaris in Tanzania offer all of this and are therefore perfect for nature lovers and those who are looking for a break from civilization and its comforts. Camping is to experience East Africa’s nature, animals and cultures in an affordable way

    Arusha – Tarangire National Park

We will pick you up in the morning and after a short safari briefing, you travel southwest towards the Tarangire National Park. The park has a diversity of landscapes including grass, acacia woodlands and forests and it is especially popular for its huge elephant herds and animals gathering at the river and swamps. Animals range from swarms of yellow breasted lovebirds to kudus, buffaloes, giraffes, zebras and impalas. Predators include lions, leopards and hyenas, while wild dogs are rare.

Accommodation: In the late afternoon you will leave the park to travel to a nearby campsite, where you will spend the night in tents.
    Lunch; Dinner

  • Day 2

Tarangire Area – Lake Manyara National Park –Ngorongoro Conservation Area

After breakfast, you will leave the area around Tarangire National Park and drive via the town of Mto wa Mbu to the Lake Manyara National Park. This park with its shallow alkaline lake stretches along the base of the Rift Valley Escarpment. Lake Manyara attracts thousands of birds, including huge flocks of flamingos. Other animals in the park include buffaloes, elephants, hippos and Masai giraffes as well as troops of boisterous baboons and monkeys in the forests. The park once became famous for tree climbing lions and if you are lucky to spot them you will be amused by the site of these animals lounging on branches in the acacia trees.

Accommodation: After a game drive in the park you will ascend to the Ngorongoro highlands, where you will overnight on a campsite situated on the crater’s edge with magnificent views of the caldera below.
    Breakfast; Lunch; Dinner

  • Day 3

Ngorongoro Crater – Mto wa Mbu

Rise and shine! After an early breakfast at your campsite, you will travel down a precipitous trail into the crater. Its grass plains and acacia forests are home to almost all the species of animals found in the East African savannah. In only a few hours you might see all of the “Big Five” – lion, elephant, buffalo, rhino and leopard.

Accommodation: After an extensive game drive and a picnic lunch inside the crater, you will leave the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and travel to Mto wa Mbu, where you will spend the night in a tent on a campsite.

"Best adventure of my life!"

Best tour guides ever! John and Antony knew so much about the land, the animals, the people, everything. I felt safe, (even when an elephant charged us!) and secure, and it was so wonderful being with two amazing people who took such great care of us and really went the extra mile to make sure we had the best time. The food was fantastic, too! Don't leave your lunch out anywhere, the monkeys are little thieves. :D I can't wait to someday take my husband back to Tanzania to take them on one of their safaris, they are just magical! - Less
