Anyone can bring you to a magical place with beautiful animals. Not everyone can deliver the high quality service that travels along with you on your adventure! Open Africa Safaris have really mastered their craft. They are knowledgeable, well organized, and client focused.
Above all else, I have to say they are some of the warmest, funniest people I've had the pleasure of knowing and traveling with. Their enthusiastic energy is contagious and makes for a truly wonderful experience. I made some of my favourite lifelong memories on that trip!

My girlfriend and I just came back from a mid-range Safari and Zanzibar tour with Open Africa Safaris which is a local Tanzanian company. John was really helpful and his responses were timely. The price was not over the top for the tour that we got. And yet, the accommodations and food were fantastic. Anthony, our safari guide, was not only experinced, but also very friendly. We couldn't have asked for a better guide. He is extremely knowledgeable about the wildlife, birds and all parks of Tanzania. He also has the best vision and pointed out things that we could until we got our binoculars out. He went out of the way to ensure that we had the best trip and also suggested changes to the itinerary to maximize our time. I took a safari with my husband and my 6 year old daughter. John and Anthony were extremely helpful and knowledgable. They made us feel as if we were part of the family. The people we met did not treat us as foreigners, they treated us like friends visiting. Other travelers I spoke with talked of villagers charging them for a simple photo. We were invited into their homes. I had such a wonderful experience, I cannot wait until we go again and this time volunteer at an orphanage through Open Africa Safaris. "Life Changing"
I initially had trouble finding a suitable and trustworthy safari company during my trip to Tanzania. Being a new traveler to Africa, I spoke with a friend who recently went on a few safaris while visiting Tanzania and he referred me to Open Africa Safaris.
What an experience!!!! I toured Arusha, Lake Manyara NP, Ngorongoro Crater and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro. Open Africa Safaris planned the entire trip, every detail was perfectly executed, and I commend Anthony and Open Africa for a seamless experience.
I would highly recommend this company as they are professional, personable, fun and knowledgable. Our tour guide Anthony was like the African Steve Irwin or Jack Hanna. He knew everything about the animals we saw and guided our experience with an absurd amount of knowledge.
On Kilimanjaro, Anthony was like Sir Edmund Hillary guiding us into the unknown up to 19,000 feet. Our every need was taken care of to include meals, setting up camp and creating the most amazing experience high above the clouds.
There are not enough stars on this review to rate just how good this company made my experience.

From the moment Antoine, our safari guide, drove up to our hotel in Arusha to the moment he dropped us off again, we were engrossed in the safari experience. He and his protege were so well informed about the geography, the flora and fauna, and the history of the places we passed or stayed.
We drove with them to the Ngorongoro Crater and did a one day safari. We saw a lion hunt with commentary from our guides as to the reasons for certain methods the lions employed. We saw countless zebras, wildebeasts, and flamingos. We encountered elephants taking dirt baths; ostriches grazing on the plains; hyenas sharing prey at lunch time. We even saw a white rhino, apparently a very rare occurrence, cross the road in front of our vehicle. Cheetahs, kori bustards, hippos. Name it, we saw it. And we were informed all along the way about each of these animals and their relationship to the geography and to the other species in the area.
On top of seeing and learning about all of these amazing creatures that we would only otherwise have seen in a zoo, our experience with our guides was very special and something I will never forget. Antoine is a warm, friendly man who will put you at ease in a place so foreign to most, my travel partner and myself included. His English is excellent, and he has a firm understanding of what makes Tanzania a magical place to visit or to live. It's obvious he loves his job and was born to do it. I will always consider him my kaka, my brother.
I would strongly urge anyone with the chance to take a safari with him or with anyone at Open Africa Safaris. It is a highly impactful life experience.

"Wonderful safari experience"
We recently completed a 5 day safari with Open Africa, and it was a truly memorable experience. As other reviewers have mentioned, Anton is a great guide who has a deep knowledge of the land and wildlife, and worked tirelessly to ensure we saw everything we wanted to see (big 5 checked off!). He is experienced, friendly, and just the person you want to lead you on safari. A gorgeous sunrise with giraffes in the foreground, having breakfast amidst the incredible migrating wildebeest herd, and watching lion cubs playing in the sun were just some of the highlights of our trip. We also had guide-in-training Sam along with us, and getting to know the 2 guides and hearing their stories were highlights in themselves. Above all of that, John is extremely responsive to emails and communicated closely with us from the moment we inquired about the safari, all the way to after the trip. While we experienced one or two logistics issues while on the trip, John was quick to help resolve them afterwards in a professional manner. (Make sure to double-confirm the flights and itinerary before hand!) I would recommend Open Africa to anyone who wishes to visit Tanzania for a magical experience.

"The Ultimate Authentic Maasai Experience"
My friends and I went on a tour to an authentic Maasai village and stayed with one of the families living there. Everything about the experience was amazing. We were shown how to carry water on our heads and milk cows. In the evening they had a bonfire for us and did a bit of a dance. When it got dark we saw the most stars I have ever seen in my life, it was truly beautiful. Everyone went to bed and we heard music so we hiked up the mountain for a few minutes and found a bunch of kids singing and two ladies playing the drums. We sang and danced with them for hours until they invited us into a hut and we had some sort of prayer or welcome ceremony. This was not part of the tour. We just happened to find a lovely group in the next village who were happy to see us it was easily one of the best nights of my life. The tour also included a trip to a reptile zoo where we got to learn about animals and go on a camel ride. There was also a circumcision museum which was strange but informative. My abiding memory of the Maasai Cultural Trip to Monduli is the warmth with which we were received by the communtiy, and the genuine insight we got about the Maasai way of life through sharing in some of their daily activities and celebrations.
The success of the trip was also due to the close realtionship that Anthony and John, have with the Maasai community.

We arrived from Tanzania few days ago and already miss this country. We had a wonderful vacation thanks to our charming guide Anthony who was excellent driver, we felt really safe with him.
We arrived late night of the 10th of February to Kilimanjaro Airport and he met us and picked up from airport.
We spent 4-days on safari- Ngorongoro, Serengeti, Lake Manyara. We saw so much animals- cheetahs, lions, wildebeests, sebras, hippos..... etc. We were very lucky to see black rhinos!!!
Before our trip I wasn´t quite sure, will it be safe or will it be interesting for our 10yrs old boy. But Tonny (our driver) became very good friend for us, he gave good advices and we learned so much about animals and birds.
During our safari we had accomodation in lodges and semi-luxury tents. All those places and their meals were excellent.
I really recommend this company if you are planning your vacation in Tanzania! We got excellent memories!

I booked a 4 days safari with Open Africa Safaris company and had a wonderful time!! Our tour guide, Anthony, made always sure that we have everything we need. The hotel was clean and confortable with a very beautiful view on the park ;the staff was always helpful and polite and the food was very good. The game drives were amazing! We saw a lot of wildlife and beautiful scenery. Our tour guide knew the park so well, he always knew were to take a turn and amaze us with yet another beautiful view! To sum up, this was one of the best holidays i have ever experienced!! Thank you again Anthony for the great time we spent together on this safari!

Best tour guides ever! John and Antony knew so much about the land, the animals, the people, everything. I felt safe, (even when an elephant charged us!) and secure, and it was so wonderful being with two amazing people who took such great care of us and really went the extra mile to make sure we had the best time. The food was fantastic, too! Don't leave your lunch out anywhere, the monkeys are little thieves. :D I can't wait to someday take my husband back to Tanzania to take them on one of their safaris, they are just magical!
